The Universal Sacrament of Salvation

Christ himself is the mystery of salvation: "For there is no other mystery of God, except Christ." The saving work of his holy and sanctifying humanity is the sacrament of salvation, which is revealed and active in the Church's sacraments.  The seven sacraments are the signs of instruments by which the Holy Spirit spreads the grace of Christ the head throughout the Church which is his Body.......

Baptism  This sacrament is available for infants whose parents are registered, practicing members of the parish.  The family will be asked to participate in a preparation program.  Please contact the parish office to make arrangements at least two weeks in advance of the desired date. 
 
ARTICLE 1 ~ THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM
Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit (vitae spiritualis ianua),⁴ and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: "Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word."<sup>5

Reconciliation

Confession is a sacrament instituted by Jesus Christ in his love and mercy. It is here that we meet the loving Jesus who offers sinners forgiveness for offenses committed against God and neighbor. At the same time, Confession permits sinners to reconcile with the Church, which also is wounded by our sins. Confessions are heard upon request or by appointments.

What material food produces in our bodily life, Holy Communion wonderfully achieves in our spiritual life. Communion with the flesh of the risen Christ, a flesh “given life and giving life through the Holy Spirit,” preserves, increases, and renews the life of grace received at Baptism. This growth in Christian life needs the nourishment of Eucharistic Communion, the bread for our pilgrimage until the moment of death, when it will be given to us as viaticum.

The Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist is the third of the Sacraments of Initiation.  Like Baptism and Confirmation, it brings us into the fullness of our life in Christ.

It is expressed in the National Catechetical directory about the importance of the Eucharist initiation for children is that such is a shared responsibility if children are to grow in faith.  The process of the Eucharistic initiation recognizes that parents may need help to fulfill the necessary roles needed to help their child continue to grow.

Confirmation & Marriage

Confirmation: This sacrament is being offered to teenagers of the parish on an announced basis, and is celebrated with St Regis and St. Bernadette’s, the other two parishes in our deanery cluster. For more information about this program, you may contact the parish office.

Marriage:
Contact the office 9 months to a year in advance to set a date to meet with Fr. Dave Holloway, begin your marriage preparations and to get your intended date on the calendar.

Preparation includes meeting with the priest or deacon who will be performing the ceremony, meeting with a marriage preparation couple, and attending program/programs listed on the Kansas City/St Joseph Diocese website.
